The Ogun Water Corporation has embarked on the re-channeling of all the water pipelines affected by the on-going road construction in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The corporation’s General Manager, Mrs Monsurat Agboola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Monday that the exercise was to redesign and restore water supply to affected areas.
She said that engineers from the corporation would be working alongside their counterparts from the state Ministry of Works to ensure speedy restoration of water supply to the affected areas.
Agboola said areas like Oke-Ilewo, Ibara, Ijeja, Onikolobo, Lafenwa and Enu-Gada would not have to wait until the completion of the exercise before having access to water supply.
Aside restoration of water supply, she said the exercise would also prevent incurring higher cost for the relocation of water pipelines after the completion of the roads.
``The implications of what we are doing now are many. First, it will ensure speedy restoration of water supply to the affected areas.
``Second, it will stabilise our internally-generated revenue and most importantly, it will reduce government’s expenditure in relocating water pipelines after completion of the road reconstruction exercise,’’ Agboola said.
She directed the billing unit of the corporation to stop billing the affected areas including Sabo and Abule-Otun in the state capital while the exercise lasted.
